Common causes of racking failure
- Forklift impact damage — knocks to uprights and baseplates are the number-one cause of collapse.
- Overloading — placing loads beyond the rated capacity per beam level or per bay.
- Missing or illegible load signs — staff cannot respect a limit they cannot see.
- Missing beam safety clips — beams can dislodge when a pallet is placed or removed.
- Poor installation or unauthorised modifications — mixing components or makeshift repairs.
- Corrosion and wear — especially in humid or outdoor UAE environments.

Damage traffic-light guide
A widely used way to grade racking damage is a simple traffic-light system:
Green
Minor or no damage. Safe to continue — note it and monitor at the next inspection.
Amber
Damage beyond safe limits. Offload where practical and schedule a repair; do not reload to full capacity.
Red
Serious damage. Offload and isolate the bay immediately and replace components before reuse.
How often should you inspect?
As a general rule, trained staff should carry out a visual check regularly (daily or weekly), and a documented expert inspection at least once a year — or more often in busy or high-traffic warehouses, or as required by the manufacturer or your insurer.
